We earth seraphim are pretty tough. Not only do we have our artes, but also our endurance. [Though one wouldn't guess it from looking at her, with her rather slender build that won't allow her to hold anything heavier than an umbrella, she has the highest natural defense stat in the party.] I've gotten caught in an enormous landslide, been electrocuted, tumbled off the peak of Rayfalke...
[They kind of have to be. When people think of earth, toughness and fortitude are the more common associations.]
...Bitten the inside of my mouth repeatedly by accident, stubbed my pinky toe on a chair leg, and gotten a paper cut, but here I am, safe and sound.
[Edna...it was impressive up until she started talking about every day injuries and he suddenly finds himself sighing, bringing a hand up to his face and shaking his head.]
You had me up until stubbing your toe. But the rest of that does make you pretty durable. Like an actual rock. But being electrocuted and getting lit on fire are two totally different things. When people get caught in flames...they usually don't come back. [Usually.] That still doesn't really answer the question unless the answer's just "luck and circumstance."
[Well, it was mostly a certain normin in particular, actually, but she won't say that (and doesn't really know about it yet).]
...But it's how I survived being near my brother for so long even after he became a dragon.
[Current status: trying not to Feel Things and kind of failing. Her expression goes blank and her tone goes flat, as she's inwardly grateful she's hiding her face from Hiro at the moment with her back turned and her umbrella covering most of her body.]
[He should really, really drop it. He should, but there's something about the word brother and the context of a dragon that really makes him worry about where this conversation's going.]
...Mikleo never mentioned that part. [There are a lot of questions like why her brother became a dragon and where he is now, but he's not sure how to proceed.] So wait, you almost walked off the bridge because you were following a dragon? [A beat.] What was it he wanted you to do?
[They do have angels in Glenwood, and apparently they're sometimes referred to as "spirits" too, so...it's a bit confusing. It also doesn't really help that Sorey is Basically Tales Jesus.]
I don't really know or care about whatever humans call us, in whatever world. They might as well call us "blessing-dispensers" for the amount of care they give us or the Shepherd, aka almost none, until they need something from us. "Heed my prayers, great seraphim, and bestow your blessings!"...As if.
[She might still be a...tad bitter. However, she's not entirely heartless, and hey, she's run into quite a few decent humans on her journey.]
[But Kazuya could feel some of his initial wariness begin to ease - mostly because he was puzzled. So, this "seraph" was not an actual seraph? She certainly didn't act like any angel he had met, even if she did seem to share the contempt for humans like most of them did. Just... in a different flavour. This was just confusing. Stupid alternative dimensions sharing words for different things...]
So, essentially, you're not what I thought you were. Thank God. [But there was still one thing...] Just to check though, you're not gonna "purify" me or anything, right? 'Cuz I'm not a hellion, and I'm fairly certain it's just gonna end badly. [For her]
[Considering that malevolence was most likely Bel, Kazuya had no idea what "purifying" it would do to him, considering their souls were so crammed together it'd kill them both if they were torn apart. Would Bel return to being the God it once was? Would it die, bringing Kaz with him? Or would nothing happen? Kaz didn't know, and he didn't want to know, if it meant putting his continued existence on the line]
It's, uh, complicated but, you might end up killing me if you try to purify it. And I, y'know, kinda like living, so...
[Suddenly, stone slabs protrude from the wall near the top of the vending machine, shoving it ahead a few inches. This does cause the vending machine to teeter slightly forward, with the danger of falling on its front, but Edna doesn't care.]
[ Damn--! This wasn't good. Okay, he'd have to be quick about this, then. He lightly places his hand right on the back of the machine, reaching... reaching...! And as soon as he gets his hand on the cord and yanks to unplug it, it goes teetering and eventually does in fact, fall on it's front. ]
No...! [ The snacks... but the ghost might be out?! ]
[Well, at least the ghost, having realized that its vessel is not functioning for the time being (which was her original goal anyway), decides to de-possess the vending machine, hissing out "murderers" repeatedly. Not fun for anyone involved.
However, it's seemingly decided to change its target to the person who pulled its vessel's plug, which would be...Rinne.]
Watch out!
[There's a ghost preparing to charge (okay, more like fly) at him, after all.]
[ Rinne spent a few seconds mourning the waste of all of those snacks and the potential repair costs of the vending machine before hearing Edna's warning, flying away and gripping tightly onto his scythe, appearing once more in his hands. ]
Bastard--!
[ With a sudden fervor, Rinne charges right at the ghost, slashing at it for a nice and quick purification. How dare you let him ruin so much food! ]
The well-intentioned, maybe overly friendly, pure-hearted, selfless do-gooder type.
[People like Sorey, Alisha, or Sergei, in other words. People who don't give a second thought to sticking out their neck for someone else, or getting involved in other people's affairs when they don't always ask for it. That's what she's thinking.]
I...see. I do not know, I suppose you are not wrong. I have never purposefully intended to do bad things, and I do try to not be selfish. Although I am uncertain of the definition of being pure of heart and how one can be "overly friendly". I thought being friendly was a good thing.
Edited (I can spell, I swear.) 2016-01-08 05:02 (UTC)
[The vending machine is indeed stopped once its plug is pulled, and it groans (the ghost or the machine, it's hard to tell) as its power source has suddenly stopped feeding it.
With that, the ghost possessing it flies out and almost screeches, hissing out "murderers" repeatedly, as expected.]
This guy doesn't know when to quit.
[Edna says boredly, sidestepping to dodge the ghost charging at her, and whacks it away with her mana-infused umbrella, following up with a few martial artes of her own, such as Petal WhirlWind, Rainy Punt, and Sunshine Swing.]
[ If she can't purify the ghost, she'll do her best to help defend Edna in the meantime. Whether it means trying to block attacks while she's going to cast some artes, or attempt to attack it herself, she'll do her best to be of some help.
She decides to try to distract it in the meantime, charging after it with her lance. It's effective, the ghost changing its attention to Alisha now. ]
[ With the ghost temporarily distracted, she takes this opportunity to backstep and launch her arte at it. Spears and weapons can only do so much against the incorporeal, so it's up to her to hold up her end of the deal and purify it quickly. ]
Just chill already.
[ Guess which arte? ]
Final Embrace!
[ It successfully purifies the ghost, one of many to disappear into blue flames. The tradeoff for having one being relatively easy to deal with is the fact that there are many, many more where that came from. ]
[ Alisha watches with awe, looking to Edna with widened eyes when the ghost is defeated. Really, she'll never get over how amazing the Seraphim's powers are. ]

So that's what all those clunky pieces of equipment are for. And here I thought you were trying to make a fashion statement.
[Maybe. (Not really.)]

Obviously! Whatever. Look - there's a lot of ghosts out there that need to be taken care of, so if you don't mind, I need to get moving.

[She'll give a little wave of her umbrella and then walk off afterwards, seeing as they're both pretty busy with their ghost-hunting duties.]

No. I thought I was following a seraph.

I don't know what that...illusion wanted me to do. He didn't say anything after that.
[She's not sure if he's referring to ghost-masquerading as Eizen or actual pre-dragon Eizen.]
